Biography

I moved to Yeovil in 2000 to work at Westland Transmissions as Operations Manager in Repair & Overhaul. I now work as a business consultant working with manufacturing companies in Somerset and Dorset. I live in Yeovil West and am a Town Councillor for the Preston Ward: my children went to Parcroft School and then to Westfield and both are now studying at university.
I am standing for the County Council because I have seen a decline in the services provided by the Council and I have not seen or heard anyone in this Ward arguing against what is happening. This is a geographically large ward and yet we have no buses in the evening, on Sundays or Bank Holidays. This means that many residents can’t get into town unless they can afford taxis; this is detrimental to the residents and the town. In addition, older residents who have bus passes can no longer use them before 9.30 in the morning which affects them being able to attend GP and hospital appointments. I want to look at how the Council can offer a more inclusive bus service.
The County’s Health and Wellbeing strategy reads well, but I want to see that there are positive and visible steps being taken to ensure that there is a joined up approach to care, especially across the mental health services as children grow older and move into adult mental health services. I also want to make sure that the money that the Council spends on mental health services is used effectively and does not line the pockets of private providers.
