BATTLELINES are being drawn in South Somerset as Labour’s Martin Jevon launches his bid to become Yeovils’ MP. Labour members gathered on Sunday for a hustings to choose their favourite candidate. At the packed meeting Martin was selected to fight for the seat, which is held by Lib Dem MP David Laws

Martin Has already hit the streets as his campaign began over a year before election day. “I’ve already been out meeting people,” said Martin. “I was in Chard yesterday and I’m out again in Yeovil today”

“I want to meet as many people as possible and, in particular, reach out to the parts of South Somerset where Labour hasn’t traditionally been strong. There are Labour supporters everywhere and it is important we reach out to them all.”

Martin works for a National Health Charity, having previously worked for Somerset County Council. He was successful in his bid to be the party’s prospective parliamentary candidate after fending off all the rival bids.

Murray Shepstone, Vice Chair of Yeovil Constituency Labour Party, said: “Members had a strong shortlist of excellent people to choose from. Martin Jevon will do a fantastic job and I know all Labour party members will get behind him.”
