Today I want to talk about green issues and Labour’s views on them. I am really proud of my party’s record on taking green issues seriously, and if elected, we will continue to do the same. The last Labour government introduced the Climate Change Act. They introduced energy efficiency grants and created new national parks amongst a number of measures introduced, and a new Labour government will continue to make sure green issues are at the forefront of government policy.

As a country, we need to reduce carbon emissions. We need to move away from our heavy reliance on fossil fuels and look towards major expansion of green energy like solar and wind power. We need to take climate change seriously.

We need to protect our environment and protect our homes from flooding. Labour will prioritise flood prevention and create a climate change adaptation plan so we can properly prepare for the effects of climate change.

We also need to protect our wildlife for future generations. Labour will end the badger culls and maintain the ban on fox hunting, as well as banning the use of wild animals in circuses.

We need to focus on low carbon technology and create more ‘green’ jobs.

Labour will decarbonise our electricity supply by 2030 and create a million new high technology, green jobs by 2025. Green issues are really important global issues, not just for us, but for future generations, so let’s make sure these issues are a top priority.
