The Bridgwater area is Labour’s strongest in Somerset. Labour runs Bridgwater Town Council with 12 of 16 councillors elected Labour in 2019 and Labour is the strongest opposition party on Sedgemoor District Council with 12 of 48 Labour councillors elected in 2019. On Somerset County Council in 2017 50% of the Bridgwater County seats were Labour. In the Bridgwater Parliamentary elections Labour is the main challenger to the Conservatives, taking second place. In Bridgwater the Lib Dems have been wiped out returning just 1 councillor in 20 years. The Greens never stand because of the proven green credentials of the Bridgwater Labour party. Independents have always fared poorly and are few and far between.
Therefore the battle in the Bridgwater area is between Labour and the Tories.
Labour is standing in every seat and fighting to win thereby giving it control of the Town Council which will become stronger under the Unitary changes with the disappearance of Sedgemoor District and fighting every Unitary seat will give it key influence at the new County authority.

Excellent plans and team, just 2 little points. There are devastating delays for children to be assessed for Special Educational Needs. Can it be made mandatory (with of course appropriate appeal system) for ALL new-build to be fitted with solar panels or ground heat pumps. Best of luck – Val Bannister
